Dog Friendly Skiing in Central Oregon

I love snow. My dog loves snow. We are a match made in heaven, and living in Bend, Oregon, gives us a chance to enjoy the snow together.

There is not one but three snow parks situated close to Bend where you can take your dog off-leash for x-country skiing or snowshoeing.

Wanoga Snow Play Area is situated about 15 miles up the Cascades Scenic Byway towards Mt. Bachelor. This ski trail is by far the busiest, as there is also sledding, fat biking, and snowmobiling. DogPAC facilitates the off-leash area, provides garbage cans, poop bags, and grooms the trails.

Edison Butte Sno-Park is just under 10 miles past Wanoga on Forest Service Road 45 towards Sun River. The Edison trails wind through a forest of Ponderosa Pine and Hemlock. It is hilly compared to Wanoga, but the trails are much more scenic. These trails are not groomed, nor are there garbage cans or poop bags.

Skyliners Sno-Park is about 12 miles out of Bend along Skyliners Road. At lower elevation to both Wanoga and Edison, check on snow conditions before heading out. There are no garbage cans or poop bags here either. When heading out with your dog, make sure you practice good dog etiquette. Follow DogPACs tips for adventuring, and if you can, please donate at the drop box at Wanoga or on their web site. Volunteers run DogPAC, and donations go towards maintaining the work they do.
